For anyone out there wanting some DIY action in your life, here are the recipes for the natural health care products we are taking with us Outback.

Toothpaste Powder

I love the idea of toothpaste powder. There is something kind of simple yet chic about it.  It’s also lightweight, easy to pack and carry and has zero plastic waste like their tubed counterparts.

To make our toothpaste powder, I researched quite a few recipes and found that combining two recipes from Going Zero Waste and Wellness Mama made a super tasty, easy and effective powder.

  • 1/4 Cup of Xylitol
  • 1/4 Cup of Baking Soda
  • 1/4 Cup of Bentonite Clay
  • 3 tablespoons Cinnamon powder
  • 3 tablespoons Cloves powder

Shake up the ingredients, place in a glass or other container of choice and enjoy!  Easy peezy!

 

Natural Deoderant

I love following Lauren Singers Blog, Trash is for Tossers.  She always has practical tips said in down to earth ways that I can relate to.  I watched her video on making her own natural deodorant here and pretty much just followed it directly.  The only change I made is the essential oil scent. I used lavender and I really like it.

Combine the following ingredients and heat over a pan of boiling water.

  • 2 tbs arrowroot
  • 1tbs baking powder
  • 1tbs coconout oil
  • 1tbs shea butter

Stir till fully melted.  Add 5-10 drops of preferred essential oil, I used lavender, pour into container and pop into the fridge for 20mins.  Whaaa laaa!  

**backpacking/travel tip – if you are taking this on the go, put into a sealed container because if the deodorant heats up, it will melt and spill otherwise.

 

There is just something so satisfying and fun about making things for yourself.  I don’t know why I didn’t do this earlier?! I hope you enjoy and have fun playing too!
